Jazz Band at BWHS, is an optional extracurricular activity open to all BWHS students. It is instructed by Duane Minnick, Director of Bands and Fine Arts Chair. The music of Jazz Band I and II runs the gamut from traditional jazz to modern jazz/rock fusion. Whether it’s through the sounds of Woody Herman or Earth, Wind & Fire, our Jazz Ensembles never fail to delight an audience. Students are encouraged to show off their musical talents in one of the Jazz ensembles. Jazz Band I is the premier ensemble and is selected by audition only.

Students may also elect to study Jazz Ensemble as a credit course. Approval by Mr. Minnick is required to take this course.

JAZZ BAND SEASON

Jazz band season begins with auditions in early September and continues through the end of performance season in May.  Both Jazz I and II usually rehearse twice each week in the morning, before school. Additional rehearsals may be required just before scheduled performances. Jazz Band performs several concerts throughout the season, both at BWHS and at regional events.
