Main responsibilities

  • Maintain/restock supplies in orange first aid bag taken to all events, field trips, and competitions. You are not responsible for paying for these supplies. You will work with the Booster Organization and school nurse to supply.
  • Make sure you or designated volunteer is willing to “carry the bag” and any other student medical supplies (inhalers, epipens, or other student medications which may be provided by parent, student, school nurse, etc) and be responsible for staying with or being accessible to students at all times in case of emergency during event or activity outside of school setting.
  • Assist Band Director and Boosters Secretary with compiling, organizing, and maintaining health/emergency forms for band members in binders with originals and 4 copies for “bus binders” used as reference as needed by chaperone or designated adult during travel out of the building. Assist in keeping these binders updated.

Time required per week/per month and during the day/evening or weekend

  • More time (several hours x 5-6 days) needed at beginning of year to organize bag, health forms and then again when forms start coming in at beginning of school year. Bag is used at first marching band session in summer and thereafter so will need to:
    • Make sure bag is ready to go at beginning of Band Camp (July)
    • Work with Volunteer Coordinator to make sure that band camp volunteers are comfortable with medical needs as may arise.
    • Try to have emergency forms available as soon as possible for potential use at Band Camp.
    • Bag can be restocked any time not in use. May need some evening time to work put binders together.

Key skills required

  • Medical/Nursing knowledge is helpful but not necessary.
  • The ability to stay calm in urgent situations, common sense/sound judgment, organizational, and basic first aid skills are helpful.
  • Must be physically able to carry approximate 4-5 lbs bag.
  • Must be willing to stay with students on periphery and maintain student privacy regarding health concerns or issues.
